BioRICS, a KU Leuven spin-off, is revolutionizing the way we understand mental energy. They've developed a groundbreaking method to calculate mental energy consumption using raw sensor data from wearable devices like Fitbits. BioRICS is dedicated to empowering individuals to enhance their health and performance by translating objective, real-time measurements into personalized insights, revealing what drains their energy and what recharges them. As part of their core product development, BioRICS partnered with us to elevate their mobile app development and enhance their overall end-user experience.

Challenge

The core BioRICS product is a complex system with many interconnected parts: data collection from wearables, algorithmic interpretation of that data, and a user interface to present insights to users. Our challenge was to elevate the mobile user experience, making it more intuitive and engaging.

Solution

We modernized the existing mobile app codebase, bringing it up to current technical standards. We then reimagined the customer journey with a mobile-first approach, designing an experience optimized for smartphones. Finally, we implemented the new product designs and optimized the deployment pipelines to enable more frequent releases, ensuring users always have access to the latest features and improvements.

Approach

We began with a comprehensive audit of the existing software stack. We then established a collaborative operating model with the BioRICS engineering team, assembling a team that included a product designer, a front-end engineer, and a full-stack engineer from our side, all working closely with key personnel from BioRICS.

BioRICS is on an ambitious trajectory to bring their technology into the hands of users in the most user-friendly way possible. We are gladly shifting gears alongside their engineering team to keep speeding up the product development process.
